Fresh Ginger Milk

Zan-ja-beel ma haleeb~ Milk with Ginger

A must during the winter months throughout the UAE. A favourite amongst the Arab men in the rural and remote areas, as well as the most modern home today. Usually made just after sunset in the winter months, it is kept warm in a thermos flask until consumed.

5 cups fresh milk
2 tbs sugar-and extra when serving, if needed
1-2 inch piece of fresh ginger or a bit less if you dont like it to "spicy hot"(finely grated)

Place the ginger and sugar into a pot, stir for a bit over heat and then pour milk onto it. Slowly bring to the boil to prevent burning. Once it has reached the boiling stage, reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Transfer to a thermos until ready to serve.

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu my dearest sister Sultana,

Wow... you such a busy bee, (at least one of us are getting things done..hehe) masha'Allah.

This is interesting.. and surprisingly has never occurred me! Seeing that I make ginger-tea in the winter (usually when I'm sick)..same concept.. but water instead of milk, and enough tea.. milk added after it's done.

Jazak'Allah for sharing. I really like the little write-up you gave with :)

I'll have to add this to my list of things to make. Forgive me Sultana..this is going to take me a while. :D

hee hee, mashallah your the busy bee! With all the swaps, ideas for bags, etc, and thats just your blog mashallah! what about REAL life..........Allah gave us 2 hands so dont try to pick up to many things that your hands cannot hold:) Slowly slowly, lol....Inshallah you get all your things done good and well....

We also make that ginger tea you talk about too...But I like the milk blend better....It helps me sleep to be honest...We use it during sickness also, and in the winter when we need energy and warmth in our bodies....But it can also help you to gain weight if your not careful about how frequently and how much you drink!

The description is a small piece of what this is used for, I think we could go on and on about the beneficial qualities of Ginger!..

About your taking time...No need to ask forgiveness from me, Im here waiting for you at any time! Your the busy one mashallah, not me...Like my husband says "I always have henna on my hands"...hee hee.. As in, I dont do alot of work!

love,sultana

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu my dearest sister,

Hahaha.. I love that line! "I always have henna on my hands".. I think I'm going to use it now.. :) Although I don't agree with your husband, I think you do lots.. masha'Allah. And I'm sure he is very well fed!..hehe

I think I'm going to give the Zan-ja-beel ma haleeb a try tonight (or tomorrow morning) since everyone at home seems to have a cold. I won't tell them about the gaining weight part.. although I don't think it would bother them...hehe

Ass-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu my dearest sister,

Just giving you an update. I made this last night, and it does wonders! My throat is feeling much, much better.. it also tastes delicious. I'll definitely be having this instead of the tea version now.

Jazak'Allah :)

Oh.. I did change one thing. I used honey instead of sugar. I do that with most beverages I drink (if it needs sugar).

Wa alaikum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu Sis!

mashallah :) Al hamdulilah it helped sooth your throat :) It is delicious ain't it..heh heh...

I bet it tastes even better with honey...oh the power of honey, if only we knew!

Speaking of tea, i found in the supermarket today some tea mixtures from Ibn Sina brand tea. Can you belive there is tea to lower blood pressure, to clear congested chests and to sooth an upset tummy! SubhnAllah nature has been given a precious gift for us!

Im so happy to know you tried it and loved it, and inshallah in future you only have to drink it for pleasure and not for sickness...

love,sultana :)
