Stuffed Grape Leaves and Stuffed Cabbage Leaves

This is a VERY typical Middle Eastern dish. Stuffed Veggies and leaves are constantly consumed for lunch, dinner, snacks, etc...They are not very fattening besides the rice and everyone has their own "secret" recipe for them :) I like mine with lemon...I will not post the recipe because really, it is easy to find delicious recipes on the net to satisfy your taste for this dish. There are many different ways to make it!
Enjoy!

Grape leaves can only be found in the gourmet shops here and are rather expensive but one day I'll definitely try the stuffed cabbage rolls. I like the fact that they're not fattening. Well, depending on what is put in them of course :)

cynthia: Wow, gourmet! In the UAE they can be found at any arabic restaurants on the street! I can get a glass jar of grape leaves for about 4 US dollars here,ha ha ha, amazing!

Well hummmm not fattening in the sense that its only the rice that will stick to your ribs :)

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu my dearest sister,

Ooooh soooooooo yummy! I love stuffed grape leaves. Haven't had it in a while though..your picture has me drooling :D

The filling I use is: rice, minced beef, lemon, garlic, cilantro, mint, tomato, onion, olive oil, salt, pepper. Is yours much different??

We are able to find canned grape leaves at most grocery stores..alhumduliLlah.. and you can even find them growing outside (like my backyard). A sister here (originally from Syria) collects them and has a whole 'preserving' method.. her fridge is full of jars at different stages..hehe :)I need to learn this.

In my little world.. rice isn't fattening..neither is cream donuts..haha :)

Wa'alaykum as-salaam

Wa alaykum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu Sis :)

While your drooling, im leaking and at the same time stuffed. How you might ask? Well one nostril is leaking and the other is stopped up and the head is stuffed...LOL.. to much info i know! sorry! uggg...

The filling you use is not very different from mine, but alot of the time we dont put any meat in it, just rice and herbs...

How lucky that you have it growing in your backyard...Funny thing is that i went to buy it from the grocery and i was thinking it should be from like syria or jordan or someplace close, BUT most of them were from California! SubhnAllah....Mashallah your friend should be talented if she can make homemade stuff like that...I had "jam making fever" last year and the whole neighborhood got enough apricot and grapefruit jams for months...hee hee...

Your world seems to be similar to mine when it comes to calories and fat...Even though as i say this im on a forced diet and gym routine. Why is all the "good stuff" full of fat!?! geeeeeezzzzz....

love,sultana :)
