Weekend Diary:Oasis Chinese Food

I didn't realize it was the weekend already!

Last night I got take away from Oasis Chinese Restaurant in Abu Dhabi. I think my eyes were bigger than my stomach because I couldn't finish half of my food...This, although, could have had something to do with the disturbing problem I faced earlier in the day(blood pressure skyrocketed) or quite possibly the 3 cups of coffee I gulped down before dinner! I'm betting on the Coffee though....

Anyway, I ordered the Fried Shrimp and Steamed Dim sum...Well, the Fried Shrimp platter turned out to be those darn small shrimp that couldn't possibly be fried any smaller, yet, they were!.....There was more batter pasted on them than shrimp, or wait, "pawns" as the menu said....ha ha ha ha.....Those Chinese and their accent again! Adorable....

The Dim sum however ALWAYS comes out great, although, sometimes they are the size of a chicken egg...humm...I had the "chicken" dim sum with sweet dipping sauce. It was perfect...Even the egg sized ones,lol....

We(husband and I) had ordered Singapore noodles as well to share, but that didn't happen, we both were so full from the Dim sum. So, I refrigerated the noodles...

Here's a hint if you want to know how healthy these noodles are NOT.....

Refrigerate them, take them out the next day, turn them over onto a plate, and look at the cooled hard OIL that forms a rectangle around the base of the noodles. OMG! They are a Heart "DIE"-saster......not disaster!

The leftover (3 pcs) Dim sum however, again, pass the health test....

FeeBi the Cat had some Dim sum with me at lunch time, but my other feline(who is as finicky as they come) did not...Funny thing, FeeBi the Cat eats all kinds of dried fruit, she likes it more than fish or treats.

She was a rescued street kitten, and I'm assuming, the only food she had as a baby starving on the street was fallen smashed dates from the Date trees that line our Abu Dhabi streets. So i guess this is where her love of fruit comes from.

Anyway, my Cats and their antics are a whole other story! So, FeeBi the Cat had some Dim sum and then went to sleep VERY full..The little fatty....When she woke I snapped her pics because shes just to adorable.......I'm sure one day I'll have someone comment saying I'm a lonely weirdo because I talk about my cats so much...Let me just respond to that," Oh well! I love my Cats and that's that....nothing weird about it!" When you come to this part of the world and you see the amount of cats on the streets and how they are abused and tortured by the general population you might become a Animal Rights Activist yourself.

Anyway(word overused in this post)! Enjoy the photos and...

Have a Great Weekend or Weekday(lol) depending on which corner of the world your in!

Really? All that money in that country and they don't take care of the cats? Sickening really...

Humm, I think we all know that money doesnt make a "people" humane or kind..

Unfortunaltey all over the world there are people who torture and kill helpless animals and at least in some places they get punished for thier actions, but here it another story. There are Laws to protect animals here, but i dont think anyone knows about them to be honest!

Just a couple of weeks ago there was a story about a puppy that was found hanging from a wall by a rope around its neck, and its stomach was slashed open. It was dead obviously, and it was hanging over someones back garden wall, well, they said it wasnt thier dog, and someone must have done that and they didnt know who it was, so until now i think no one was prosecuted for it.
Also many times i have heard of children throwing puppies and kittens out of moving vehicles on the highways and the helpless animal getting killed by the mass of cars behind them.

The only thing that can calm me down in this topic is knowing that Allah(subhana wa ta'ala) will judge these people for this on thier day...

I came across this post through Google, I realize that it's been posted over two years ago but I'm from Abu Dhabi and have spent my entire life taking care of animals, rescured cats, cooperated with the local Feline Friends organization, and have reported crimes against animals to PETA.

I've been to different parts of the world, including Europe, and I'm sure the level of respect for animal lives is far greater over there compared to what it is here, however if you're a subscribed member of PETA you'll realize the incredibly high number of people that get away with cruelty against animals all over the world (rich or not) including the USA.

I agree that there's lack of awareness in this society, but we do have laws that protect animals, a man was jailed in Ajman for shooting someone else's dog.

Vet clinics are thriving in this country, I usually end up waiting up to 1 week for a cat appointment a the local American veterinary clinic. Pet stores and trade in pet supplies is also doing extremely well. There are lots of online communities dedicated to local pet owners.

Local animal lovers are not a rarity as your post and responses happen to imply, all of my friends, my entire family, and extended relatives are supportive of animals or have pets of their own that they love and cherish. I have heard of terrible and disgusting stories on behaviors coming from bored teens torturing animals (mostly those that belong to uneducated lower middle class families) but have never witnessed it myself in all the areas I've lived in.

Just wanted to lay those facts cause as a local animal lover I do not appreciate having all of us painted as cruel villains when it comes to animal rights.

hi hamad :)
i agree with alot of what youve said, and i myself have helped out with Feline Friends alot in the past... im not sure what you meant by the "local" poulation...but, i wrote the "general" population which includes every nationality here in uae....i didnt blast locals..

Alot of bad things happen to helpless animals here in the UAE and nothing is done to punish those people simply because we dont have enough animal welfare officers around to see it and most people wouldnt know who to turn to if they had an animal abuse claim..

In the last few years it has gotten ALOT better here in regards to animal welfare, but, there is still work to be done! If you have ever heard any horror stories from feline friends or seen it by your own eyes youd know what im talking about...PETA can only do so much here....

anyway, i never picked out locals for criticism. i picked out people in the general population who abuse animals...just wanted to make that clear.
